    At the United Pipeline Systems Ltd. Edmonton Shop, our machinist provides specially designed parts and equipment to our installation crews and customers in accordance with the specific demands of each project. We work in a fast-paced environment with daily challenges; often stressful with an equal amount of rewarding experiences. Our machinist also plays a large role in our innovative research and development department, while providing key solutions to the pipelining industry.

    Responsibilities

    • Read and interpret dimensioned prints and apply to manufactured parts.
    • Setup correct feeds and speeds for a variety of material types (steel, aluminum, plastic).
    • Setup and safe use of various machinery (bench grinder, belt sander, manual mill, manual lathe, drill press, CNC lathe, automatic and manual steel saws).
    • Evaluate machine shop projects to determine type of work, materials, fixturing and equipment to be used.
    • Interpret company policies as applied to employees and abide by safety regulations, standard operating procedures and quality standards.
    • Recommend and implement measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, crew productivity and quality of product.

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications

    • High School diploma or equivalent.
    • 1-2 years minimum experience in a machine shop setting.
    • Proficient in using manual machine tools; automatic and band saws, vertical mill, engine lathe, tool grinding.
    • Proficient in using micrometers, height gauges, bore gauges, dial and vernier calipers.
    • Experience with safe part holding and fixturing.
    • Experience setting up and operating a two axis CNC lathe.
    • Proficient with PC and Microsoft computer software; Excel, Word, and Outlook.
    • Experience with CAD CNC programming an asset.

    Additional Requirements

     

    • Mechanical, Hydraulic, Welding and Forklift experience an asset.
    • Must be self-motivated
    • Must be well-organized and detail oriented
    • Must be physically fit
    • Able and willing to work outdoors
    • Able to work overtime as required
